Mommy Must Haves

Smarty Pants Multi Plus Omegas Prenatal Vitamins

I took these beginning at 3 months pre-pregnancy all the way through my breastfeeding journey and outside of the normal fatigue associated with pregnancy, breastfeeding, and raising a new baby, I've been spared many unfortunate physical postpartum woes. One thing I can especially call out is my hair is longer and stronger than ever!

Frida Mom Perineal Instant Ice Maxi Pad

Skip the DIY padsicles and just buy these. The pad sickles get stuck together and they don't stay cold long. These are super convenient and definitely worth the money, meaning they do their job. I used them for 4-5 days after I got home from the hospital which was roughly 4-8 days postpartum. I bought 3 boxes and ended up with a few left over. I think I only used 1 out of the third box. I didn't use these while in the hospital because the nurses dressed me every day except the last day with all the things the hospital provided. The hospital supplies were sufficient while there, but these were great while at home.

Witch Hazel

Soak a few cotton rounds in this and throw them onto your ice pad, or regular pad, and trust me, your lady parts will thank you. Rose water might seem like a bit much but it's super hydrating and your sensitive skin will love it! Also, when you're feeling really icky down there, the sweet scent of roses makes you feel just a little better about yourself.

Cotton Rounds

I soaked these cotton pads in witch hazel and used them to clean my stitches, (I tore pretty bad), every time I used the restroom, and to lay on my ice maxi pad the first week postpartum. I ended up loving using them to clean down these after using the restroom and kept that as a habit. Using witch hazel to clean, especially the rose water one, leaves you feeling good and smelling well, like a bouquet of roses.

Legendairy Milk Pump Princess Supplement

I don't eat a ton and I'm very active. These two facts combined with breastfeeding meant I was burning calories WAY faster than I could put them back in. Unfortunately this caused my supply to dip occasionally. Insert these little magic pills and boom! Thirty minutes to one hour later I was pumping an additional 2-3 ounces again! I did have to be intentional about taking them with food and drinking a lot of water, but even with this I was amazed at how well they worked!

Munchkin Milkmakers Lactation Cookie Bites

My late night guilty pleasure! These cookies are so good! I was having trouble keeping weight on while breastfeeding and every nursing session left me extremely hungry! These were the perfect snack to satisfy my sweet tooth, give me a few quick calories, and milk production boost! Yes, I could definitely notice the boost in milk production the next time I nursed. They work!

FridaMom Disposable Underwear

I used these with a menstrual pad for the first 3 weeks postpartum and they made life so easy! When I needed to freshen up I just threw the old pair away and put on a new pair with a new pad. I didn't have to worry about washing a garment, or any contamination. Also, they're super comfy and when I was having a hot flash I would rip off the pajamas and wear them like shorts.

100% Cotton Pajamas

If you're like me, you may live in these things for the first few days postpartum, so I'd recommend getting a few pairs. One thing no one mentioned to me about the immediate postpartum period was the HOT FLASHES! The dramatic estrogen drop that happens immediately post partum makes it feel like you're going through an accelerated menopause. I'm into natural fabrics and 100% cotton aligns with the natural frequency of the human body at around 100hz. Cotton also breathes really well and you'll definitely want to make yourself as comfortable as possible during this period because there's so much going on. Any and every added piece of comfort is extremely valuable.

Colace

I tore in multiple place, had a ton of stitches, and other complication after giving birth. Needless to say, I was in a crap ton of pain for a WHILE. I remember calling a friend crying at 8 weeks postpartum because of the pain and... to be honest... sheer despair and trauma of it all. I only took the prescribed opioid for the first 5 days postpartum, and when I came home I was relying solely on acetaminophen and ibuprofen. Taking them together seemed to work the best, however taking so many painkillers for so long left me very backed up and dealing with a different kind of pain. Colace was my hero, and to be honest, I think I had to double up on that too to get things moving.

FridaMom Peri Bottle

Whether you get this in a kit or buy it separately, just make sure you get it. The hospital will send you home with a bottle to rinse with but this upside down design makes life so much easier when you're already in a ton of pain.

Pro Tip: Fill the bottle with warm water before you rinse. Avoid cold water if possible. Just trust me on this one.

Acetaminophen & Ibuprofen

Just go ahead and stock up on this now. If you give birth at a hospital they will most likely send you home with pain killers but you won't want to run out of them and have to deal with the pain, and/or be bothered with purchasing more.

Nursing Bra 4-Pack

I began buying these while I was pregnant and ended up wearing them exclusively around month 5 because of the weight gain. They are super comfy and convenient and honestly, I have no complaints. I've been wearing them almost exclusively not at a little over a year postpartum and they make breastfeeding so easy! There aren't any clips or buttons to fuddle with. You just pop a boob out, and then pop it back in. Simple as pie.
